Toronto transit riders will have to face the increase of fare, but no service cuts because TTC is raising the fare while city is in the budget crisis. This suggestion of raising the fare was made this summer. The transmit commission says that they would recommend city council about hiking the fare by 15 cent. The latest proposal means neither service cut nor service improvement. TTC is saying that they need to cut 30 million from the budget that they will gain this year and 100 million dollar in 2008 to balance the city’s plan. Even if they raise 15 cent fare, they would still be short by 35 million dollar which means that threat for the service cut will get much significant in few months until the citizens would pay more taxes. The decision is on the hands of city council. Few months later, city council will vote, whether to increase the fare or not.

In my opinion, TTC should raise the fare by 15 cents. If TTC do not raise the fee now. Later on, the TTC have to raise more amount of money than it is now. If TTC company cannot earn enough money. They cannot provide subway service for us then it is going to be a total disaster. I don’t want to imagine what the world is going to be like with subway services. I strongly suggest that citizens support TTC, since TTC company’s profit is short by 100 million dollar. But, if we just raise 15 cents, it is only be short by 35 million. It is a defiantly incredible change, don’t you think ?
