Kids' Christmas party funds stolen

Restaurant owners vow to host event for children despite theft of almost $8,000 donated by patrons
Nov 29, 2007 04:30 AM

People who had or had a drink at Hunter’s Horn pub and Restaurant had been donating money. They were looking forward to December 16th. The community gathered $8000 with pennies, dimes and nickels so that restaurant can celebrate and host Christmas party for poor children. While Cindy and Thomas was getting ready to go to work. They suddenly found out that the money was stolen by a thief. The thief stole large 5 gallon water container nearly full of cash donation. The donation was approximately seven to eight thousand dollars. Police said that the robbery was all planned. The burglar broke the store from the side door, which is the most busiest road. They broke the glass window and walked into the store. Even though, the donation is stolen, the needy children will still be invited to the party. Hunter’s Horn customers are already donating again.

I strongly believe that Hunter’s Horn restaurant should not give up on helping needy children. There is still a lot of time left till Christmas. I hope that the police would find the burglar soon as possible so that Hunter’s Horn can receive the donation for the Christmas party. From the Hunter’s Horn’s support will bring a most memorable Christmas for needy children.

Call for ban on chemical in baby bottles

Premier to strike panel to study potentially carcinogenic chemical found in many plastics
Nov 21, 2007 04:30 AM Debra Black Kerry Gillespie Staff Reporters
The provincial government

The provincial government is now experimenting whether there is any chemicals found in baby bottles, children drinking cups, soft plastic toys, reusable water bottles and even the lining of some food cans. Members of environmental who studied chemicals polluting in Canadian children is now taking the action. The groups has found 39 chemicals that contaminated their body, including, bisphenol A- a substance that causes breast cancer, obesity, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and developmental problems. Environmental defence went out to the park and draw attention to the issue of chemicals in children bottle toward the provincial government. 150 parents and children went out with a sign that says “Babies Unite Against Toxic Chemicals" and "Don't Pollute Me.

As you can see chemicals were found in babies bottles, children drinking cupos, water bottles. Even though, babies are just youngsters who are just born to live and they have the right to be treated as other people. If the government or manufactor of baby bottle thinks that baby are not important but they are going to lead our world in the next century. Because the birth rate around the world is decreasing dramatically. We need to take care and consider babies health and safety more.

Boys, 8 and 9, charged with rape

Nov 19, 2007 03:00 PM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Three boys, who are ages of 8 and 9 are being held today in detention centre. Three boys were charged by kidnapping and rapping an 11 year old girl. It was near suburban apartment complex. The girls mother reported the police yesterday. The girls was playing outside and the girl was taken to the wooded area, where the girl was sexually assaulted. Boys raped her. Three boy, two were 9 years old and one boy was 8 years old were charged with rape, kidnapping, false imprisionment, and sexual assault. Becuase these boys are young, they were taken to juvenile courts. The boys told they didn't had sex and the police told that this was the investigation where rapes are involved in young parties.

I believe that boys who are only 8, 9 years old, should be taken to the juvenile school to learn. Youth criminal justice act will proceed. Since the boys were still maturing and do not yet possess the judgement of adult. These boy should be sent to the juvenile school and teach lesson that will reflect on to their minds. When they come out from juvenile school, it would be just a whole new world for them. I trust these boys that they will act properly with respect to the society.

Copied 'Simpsons Movie,' man fined

Nov 13, 2007 01:49 PM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

A syndney man who upload Simpsons Movie on internet after recording on his cellphone was fined. He had a pirate copy of “ The Simpons Movie.” The man was fined with 1000 Australian dollars ( Cdn$857) by the court today for breaching copy right. An international operation involving Australian Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.'s Fox movie studios, and it had the right to the blockbuster and tracked unauthorized copy to Jose Duarte’s home, 21. He was also arrested in August. Prosecutor Chuan Ng said that in few hours people downloaded 3,213 times when it was available in the internet. Duarte’s lawyer said Duarte tried twice to upload movie in July 26 which was the release date and he upload ahead of the time when the movie was showed to rest of the world. Duarte thought he wasn’t able to up upload ahead but he was able to. The lawyer Stewart said “It would appear that this young man had the sophistication of a dead fish and he had no idea what he was doing.” Duarte was charge with the charge of distribution of copyright movie.

In my opinion, the man who tracked Simpsons movie was wrong. I believe uploading up earlier than showing up in the theatre will cause a huge problem. Not only it would reduce viewers of move “ Simpsons movie” but also the man would receive many charge that is followed by the distribution of copyright movie. Even though, it doesn’t apply to Australia. In Canada, The Canadian Charter of Rights and freedom states that The Canadian copyright act.

Baby left in frigid car by parents out at club

Father unrepentant, Quebec City social workers launch probe
INGRID PERITZ
From Tuesday's Globe and Mail
October 30, 2007 at 5:07 AM EDT

Shockingly, married couple left a baby in a car. The temperature when the baby was left in the car was freezing cold. While the boy was alone in the car. Baby’s parent went to popular night spot in Quebec City on the weekend. Fortunately, the baby was returned to the parents. The parents can be charged with severe crime. If the passerby did not find the baby alone in the car and called the police at 11:15pm when the temperature was dropping below zero. The baby might have been in dangerous condition if the passerby didn’t find the baby. The police said that you are not allowed to leave your baby under age of 7 just for a minute in a car. Police could not figure out how long the baby’s parents were away, but when officer checked hood and tailpipe of the car. It was very cold and this suggest that the vehicle had been there for a while. After police unlocked the vehicle and found the baby’s parent café-theatre in Quebec's touristy old town, where they were enjoying a drink with friends. The father had to fine $151 for leaving a child under 7 alone, and $200 for insulting a police officer. Also there would be more severe criminal charges followed after the fine.

In my opinion, leaving the baby alone to go to a party or club. It is not a possible decision that normal parent can make considering the consequences. Therefore, parents should receive harsh punishment and the baby must be taken with more care. If the parents are not responsible for their baby. Parents doesn’t have right to maintain their baby. The baby must be sent to couples or a person who are actually willing to take care of the baby sincerely and let the baby to live in the sanitary and supportive environment.

Increased sun exposure halves risk of advanced breast cancer: study

Last Updated: Friday, October 19, 2007 1:02 PM ET
CBC News

U.S researchers have found out that if a person receive more sun exposure, tendency to lower risk of advanced breast cancer. Researcher have found that 46 percent of women who had more sun exposure had lower risk of developing breast cancer, compared to women had little sun exposure. The sun exposure adds extra Vitamin D in the body. Surprisingly, Vitamin D was only found on white women and not in women who had darker color skin tone than white. The author strongly recommends women to take Vitamin D through diet or supplements. Sun exposure was measured that in different part and it gave different measurement of exposure between forehead and underarm. The researcher also said people who had darker skin color would have more risk of breast cancer because sun exposure cannot produce a lot of Vitamin D in their bodies.

Sun exposure would save us from cancer infection! Most of us know that when the sun is exposed, we get Vitamin D. As a student, I feel that we don’t have any time to go out and have sun exposure because during the day. We are sitting at our classrooms, after that we get back into our room and we got to finish projects and assignments. Because we don’t have any time to go outside and especially. In the winter, the sun sets early so sun exposure is very unlikely to happen among student. The only solution to supply Vitamin D to your body is buy a pack of Vitamin D in the drug store. You will prevent from not only breast cancer, but also other severe diseases.

Mother bought guns for teen

The Associated PressNORRISTOWN, Pa.

The mother of 14 year old had guns, knives and explosive materials in the bedroom and the possibility of school attack was charged by the police and buying her son three weapons. Son Dillon got three guns from his mother named Michele Cossey, 46. The guns were a .22-caliber handgun, a .22-caliber rifle and a 9 mm semiautomatic rifle. Her son was bullied at his high school and try to threaten another boy. Dillon’s mother was not charge for encourage her son to hurt other boys at his school, but she was charge because she allowed him to have guns. The guns were also found in his friends house and his mother brought laser scope. Dillon was ordered to be held at juvenile facility. Dillon was charge with gun usage and influences of terror but his lawyer said that few guns were air rifles and pellet guns.

This new was frustrating and insane to me. Dillon who is only middle school boy had a gun. His mother bought guns for Dillon to bully other boy at his school. Dillon has some issue on his behaviour and actions, moreover the real consequence to this frightening new is Dillon’s mother. His mother encouraged Dillon to carry guns and bully other boys. Even though, Dillon’s mother wasn’t punished as much as Dillon did. I strongly believe that all of the responsibilities of the crime act and the punishments that Dillon is having goes back to Dillon’s mother not Dillon.

UN running out of food aid in flood-ravaged Uganda

The United Nations agency is in process of helping the Uganda for lack of food because of flood. If the money is not given to Uganda. The supplies will run out by December. Since the food is running out quickly. The families who were affected by the flood should have nothing else to eat. The flood that was overspread in Africa caused million people in 14 countries to suffer from flooding. In eastern Uganda, the rainfall was heaviest in 35 years. The agency said the flood influenced 300,000 people and the crop losses were 90 percent in many places. The continuation of the flooding will delay planting planed and postpone until at least February. The situation is terrible and thousand people lost their homes, belongings, and crops. UN needs 17 million to buy food for flood victims and 3.2 million US to provide trucks, boats, aircraft and emergency road and bridge repairs.

Natural disaster can demolish country unexpected and no one cannot do anything about it. Unless the nation is prepared for it. Aftermath of the disastrous incident cannot be imagined since it is terrifying image. Their Citizens die or get wounded, their homes, belongs are all gone. To recover from the natural disaster such as flood. As I have stated, it takes 17 million to buy food fro the flood victim and 3.2 million US to provide trucks, boats, aircraft and emergency road and bridge repairs. But, if country spends one fifths of that money for the prevention of natural disaster. Not only it would be beneficial for the citizens, but also it would help impede the natural disaster.

Children not an option for many because of work stress: study

Last Updated: Wednesday, October 3, 2007 11:37 PM ET
CBC News

Many families are delaying having children because of working stress. Families are not having many offspring or deciding not to have any. Quarter of the people 33,000 people said they are having few children because of difficulties balancing work and family. 28 percent of families had to delay having children because of their work stress. As a result, they are not having any children. According to the study, half of the Canadians were having stress and one in three Canadians were in depressed mood or burn out and only 41 percent of Canadian’s were satisfied with their lives.

Families are not deciding to have offspring because of their working stress. Even though, families have a lot working stress, children must be born considering our future. Babies are motive power for economy. More babies means more people who have advanced skills that would help to develop our country and also it will influence the world. By it means, families produce children without consideration of any obstacles. When I and my buddies grow up, I prefer at least having four children.

Michele Henry and Betsy Powell Staff Reporters

Husband stabbed pregnant woman to death so team of 30 nurses and doctors fought hard to save unborn child and her mother. Asyusen Sesen who is the pregnant woman. She was brought to the hospital. Sesen had several stabs on her stomach, but the baby was still alive. By performing Caesarean the baby girl was still born. Unfortunately, the doctors could not save Sesen and her husband Turan Coelli, 29, was charged for murder. Sesen family and friends shared their sorrow together. Families are trying to search why it happened, but the accident was filled with questions. Sesen’s mother in law was also injured on her arm. Some families were not willing to talk about what had happened. When Sesen was carrying her baby, there is suspect who is going to be the murderer. The law of Canada doesn’t let anyone to kill unborn fetus. Neighbours said that Sesen’s family were quiet and kept to themselves and sometime they heard Sesen and her husband arguing.

The husband must be charge with cruel judgement and punishment. The pregnant woman had to die because of her husband. The baby belongs to both Sesen and her husband. Whatever the reason was to cause a conflict between them, Sesen’s husband should kept himself and temperate his anger. If husband had kept his anger just for a second. Sesen’s husband wouldn’t be charged for a crime. But, husband was being foolish. Husband had no responsibility what so ever. He should have thought of it once more before he acted, realizing that the baby is inside on her wife. If I were him, if I just thinking about my baby, I would have stabbed or even touched my baby. I will not and never be a father like Sesen’s husband. It would be shameful to the world and my baby.

CBC News

Toyota, one of the most well known automobile corp. Toyota corporation has presented their new upgraded fuel cell vehicle. It was very successful on the test that was run on Friday. The test proved that the innovated fuel cell certainly had ability to run a long distance than the existing model. The Toyota’s latest model had accomplished 770 kilometre with single fill up. Before the new model, the existing model was only able to go half of 770 kilometre with single fill up. Nowadays, Toyota is competing with global automakers such as general motors to create non gas emission vehicle. The new model that came out is 25 percent more efficient in fuel consumption. It also reduced the electricity that is to process the equipment. Also in the public roads, from Osaka to Tokyo it was able to ran about 560 km without refilling and 30 percent of fuel was left on the car. These fuel cars are seen as the most pollution free cars since they are powered by electricity. Toyota company will be continuing to develop improved vehicles.

People say that vehicle’s automobile exhaust fumes causes pollution and causes global warming. We definitely need a vehicle that is pollution free. The timing was excellent. Since we are suffering with pollution and global warming. We have found the easiest solution to prevent them. Toyota, which is known as most reliable automobile in markets nowadays. I hope car company develop cars that would not only help our environment, but also saves our expenses.

Machine guns and tear gases are fired in crowd of demostrators in Burma’s largest city. 9 people died and 11 were wounded. Anti governement protest had pushed harder and harder, thus the country was isolated for almost 2 weeks. Police crashed into the anti – government protestors also 31 government armies were also injured. This Thursday, the gunshot killed people in the street of Rangoon, while 100 protestors were seized and sent to military by the carts. One of the shocking event was that death of Kenji, journalist covering Japanese agency news. He was found dead, after his father and company identified him in the picture. The crowd was estimated as 70,000 and 100,000. Troops had arrested hundreds monks and Buddhist monks were also beaten during the arrest.

There were many protest in the history. Protest occurs very frequently in the world. It is true that many protest were many just a small conflicts of opinion. But, this time it was much more disastrous. 9 people were killed and 11 were wounded in Burma because of protest. The protestor wants to have change within their lives. Government must not use weapons to control the protestors. There is all ways many ways to solve problem. Government should discuss and find a solution which will make the protest satisfied and finding a solution that doesn’t have risk on government as well.

Too much sleep as dangerous as too little: study

Last Updated: Monday, September 24, 2007 10:47 AM ET
CBC News

Sleeping too much has same risk as sleeping too little, new british study said.
7 hour sleep is suitable amount of sleep for adults, who cuts their duration of sleep in seven to five hour had 1.7 more risk of death. The people who sleep too much has cardiovascular problem. Scientist have found that person who sleeps more than seven hours at night is most likely to die within 11-17 years as those who sleeps seven hours. Also, short sleep was part of reason why people were gaining more weights. Short sleep increased death rate of a person, but in contrast, the reason why long sleep increases death rate, is not yet to be found. People have to sleep for 7 hours a day.

I strongly believe that people should sleep at least 7 hours a day. When you don’t sleep enough, you are so fatigue next day. You cannot actually have the day that you want to have. Not only that, having less sleep causes other illness also relating to death. I have found that most students at SAC sleeps at twelve or at one. Student cannot go along with their acdemic as well as sports. However, I am very glad that residence are very punctual about lightouts.

Girls study harder than boys, says StatsCan

Sep 20, 2007 09:18 AM THE CANADIAN PRESS

In Ottawa, young women are much more likely to attend university than young men. New study has shown that huge gap between performance of their academic and their study habit at age of 15, and parents guidance. Statistic Canada said 26 percent of men of 19 years old had attended university in 2003. But, in other hand 39 percent of women attended university. The personalities and condition for study between woman and men had 77 percent gap. Men had lower average and reading skill than women. 11 percent gaps were shown by the statistic that young men spend less time on their homework than women and 9 percent gap was that men’s parent’s expectations toward boy’s academic performance. Studies have found that men and woman had different characteristic in age of 15. One of the shocking statistic is that only 32 percent of the young men’s average was over 80 percent, nonetheless, half of the women’s average was over 80 percent. The time consumed on their homework was different too. 30 percent of men spend 4 hours a week but 41 percent of women spend at least 4 hours a week for their homework. The motivation and preference were factors that were hard to measure.

Many statistics have proven that girls study harder than boys. We should agree with the statistics because it is the fundamental information about young men and young women. I accede that we should inspire more young man to study and motivate their academics. But, I strongly believe that student who study harder or intelligent is not based on a person’s gender. It is how hard they put effort on to their work. I agree that even though boys from Canada or US doesn’t study than girls. St Andrew’s College will make boys to true young men, therefore I feel that student at SAC study much harder than girl at any other schools.

Manitoba tornado strongest in Canadian history

Canadian Press
September 18, 2007 at 1:22 PM EDT

Environment Canada proved that the Tornado blew and destroyed homes in Elie Manitoba. This tornado is called F-5 which is strongest tornado in Canadian History. Spokesman Dave Carlson from Environment Canada said that after viewing the video of the tornado. Environment Canada said that the pack of the wind was 400 kilometres an hour. The tornado was able to toss cars, house and even bark off the tree. In the Canadian history F – 5 is the first tornado. Before the F-5 , there were tornados in Edmonton but it was all in category of F-4. F-4’s were less than 400 kilometres an hour. Fortunately, Elie’s tornado didn’t kill anyone since the resident were able to take a cover.

The tornado has destroyed a lot of residences in Elie Manitoba. It was unexpected disaster. I am still worried but in the part of my heart I feel relax because even though, damage was severe and harsh no one was injured or died. All of houses, and tree, cars are ruined because of extreme tornado. I believe that we should support citizens in Manitoba and find a solution to help them. First of all, I strong suggest that we should help them by fundraising. If you cannot help them because you’re in not very suitable condition. It would help the citizens of Manitoba if you just care about the citizen. It would be a lot of support for them.

TTC wants 15-cent fare hike

Last Updated: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 7:02 PM ET
CBC News

Toronto transit riders will have to face the increase of fare, but no service cuts because TTC is raising the fare while city is in the budget crisis. This suggestion of raising the fare was made this summer. The transmit commission says that they would recommend city council about hiking the fare by 15 cent. The latest proposal means neither service cut nor service improvement. TTC is saying that they need to cut 30 million from the budget that they will gain this year and 100 million dollar in 2008 to balance the city’s plan. Even if they raise 15 cent fare, they would still be short by 35 million dollar which means that threat for the service cut will get much significant in few months until the citizens would pay more taxes. The decision is on the hands of city council. Few months later, city council will vote, whether to increase the fare or not.

In my opinion, TTC should raise the fare by 15 cents. If TTC do not raise the fee now. Later on, the TTC have to raise more amount of money than it is now. If TTC company cannot earn enough money. They cannot provide subway service for us then it is going to be a total disaster. I don’t want to imagine what the world is going to be like with subway services. I strongly suggest that citizens support TTC, since TTC company’s profit is short by 100 million dollar. But, if we just raise 15 cents, it is only be short by 35 million. It is a defiantly incredible change, don’t you think ?

'They kicked us and beat us': South Koreans describe hostage ordeal

Last Updated: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 11:33 AM ET
CBC News
Taliban insurgents captured 23 missionary workers in Afghanistan. Taliban tried to convert these 23 volunteer workers who were Christians into Islam. One of the missionary worker said that Taliban kicked them and pointed a bayonet- topped rifles at their neck. Since Taliban wanted to be a Islam. Korean missionary workers satisfied Taliban insurgents by pretending to be muttering for prayers. This Wednesday was the first time that missionary workers had chance to spoke in public about their severe and strict experience that they had while they were captured. At first, 23 volunteer workers were travelling and got captured by Taliban in the bus on July 19. Unfortunately, two of the volunteer workers were killed and two were send back in the mid- August because of their failing health. The remaining missionary worker were released in late August after Korean government had negotiated with Taliban. The government agreed to withdraw 200 troops and South Korea promised not to allow any missionaries to be in Afghanistan. 21 surviving missionary worker had a medical treatment, but it will need more time to recover mentally and emotionally.

In my opinion, Taliban was really severe when they killed two missionaries from Korea. But, all of these terrible happening was caused by 23 volunteer workers who wanted to go to Afghanistan because before they flew to Afghanistan. Korean government came to the airport and asked them not to go to Afghanistan because there is still war going on. However, 23 volunteer workers were very stubborn without listen to any consequences. Volunteer workers just flew away. Therefore, in my opinion, these 23 missionary workers have put themselves in a dreadful position.

Dozens killed by suicide bomber in southern Afghanistan

Last Updated: Monday, September 10, 2007 9:00 PM ET
The Associated Press

Suicide bomber motorized a motorcycle toward the crowded market in the South of Afghanistan. The attacker targeted the police commander when he was blown up causing a huge explosion in the world’s largest poppy growing region. According to the Chief Khan, 28 were killed. Estimated number of total that included 13 police and 15 civilians. Unfortunately, the hospital recorded that 26 people died and 60 people were wounded. The hospital is presuming that the few corpse were not able to reach the hospital ; thus, death toll was likelihood. Taliban, who is stick Islamic group that ruled Afghanistan, had set a record of the most blast this year- more than 100 explosions. Taliban’s target was mostly towards international and Afghanistan military and police force. With the 28 death so far, this accident is the second deathliest bombing in Afghanistan this year. More than 4200 people died because of the uprising- related violence.

As I ponder about the accident in Afghanistan. It is just heartbreaking. Citizens of Afghanistan have done nothing wrong, but they are suffering because of the unexpected suicide bombers. I can accept the fact that this Taliban are sending these suicide bombers to Afghanistan. But, it they blow themselves up. Not only the suicide bomber dies, but also Afghanistan civilian will die who are truly innocent. The quick way to solve the suicide booming is to make the world feel empathy and to advocate civilians.
